English I and English I Honors

For this nine-week grading period, we will cover the following curriculum topics:
  • Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
  • Grammar and Vocabulary
  • Short Stories 
  • Essay writing
Exams for English I are comprehensive. The semester exam will encompass the following topics
  • Lord of the Flies by William Golding
  • Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare 
  • Poetry, grammar and vocabulary  
  • Short Stories

My Educational Background 

I am a native of Lebanon, TN. I graduated from Friendship Christian School in 2001 and Tennessee Technological University in 2006. I received my undergraduate degree in Secondary Education with specific concentration in English. Currently, I am pursuing my graduate degree in Teaching and Learning from Cumberland University.

I take my profession seriously, and I care about all of my students. I set high expectations for my students. I believe that every child can learn and succeed.

Announcements: 

One-half of the fall semester is behind us! Thank you for sending your students prepared to learn! As we continue to prepare your children for post-secondary educational opportunities, I wanted to make you aware of a few announcements.

 On Monday, November 2, our classes will travel to the Media Center to create email accounts.  Communicating correctly and effectively is essential to your child's academic development. Our team will utilize these email accounts to send assignments and various other class announcements. We want to keep you informed as well. Please send your email addresses to me at jia.barr@mnps.org to be added to the Blue Team Parent Contact list. It is my hope that these email addresses will be used throughout your child's high school career.
